Mt. Light Sanctuary

Hi,

This is Michael Lightweaver. A few weeks ago I forwarded an alert to you concerning the religious/ethnic violence in Indonesia and the apparent results of our mobilization around this situation. I have recently received several different notices calling for global meditations/prayer on behalf of the situation in the Balkans. If you would like a brief list of these, just let me know.

Today I am writing about something more personal. Over the course of many years as a counselor, I noticed that most of us reach a point in our lives when we need some time apart -- a time to assess where we have been, where we are and where we are going -- a time for quiet reflection.

This is the reason I established Mt. Light Sanctuary in a secluded valley high in the mountains of western North Carolina (USA). There are few places which can compare with the Sanctuary as a place of quiet retreat. In addition to being a place for personal retreat, this year I have decided to lead some small group weekend retreats around themes related to the interconnectedness of all life. A copy of the retreat schedule and a description of the Sanctuary are below.

Wishing You A Peaceful Week,

1999 Seasonal Retreats

Winter Retreat * January 29-31

"Living Mindfully With An Open Heart"

Is it possible to be fully in the present: to release our regrets of the past, our hopes and fears of the future - and simply to be in the Now, mindfully, with an open heart? On this three day quest we wil journey inward to the Source of our ability to be fully present with an open heart.

Walking The Medicine Path - A Weekend With Kathleen Oweegon

From Santa Fe, New Mexico

Join us for a special weekend of teaching circles, mountain walks, evening campfires, spirit journeying and drumming as we explore the ageless wisdom of the indigenous people of the Southwest and the healing power of plants.

Kathleen Oweegon is a Medicine Teacher and healer from the mountains near Santa Fe, New Mexico. Steeped in the native wisdom of the Southwest and formally trained as a graduate of the Southwest School Of Botanical Medicine and The Ayurevedic Institute, she combines a unique blend of ancient wisdom and scientific understanding in teaching the healing arts of plant medicine and restoring balance and harmony within oneself and with the Earth.

Registration: The $150 registration fee includes the program, five meals, and camping space along a cascading mountain stream or sheltered sleeping bag space Friday and Saturday nights. B & B's are also available nearby.

Spring Retreat * May 29-31 - "Fairies, Gnomes & Elves"

Join us for this delightful and fun weekend of exploring the realm of Nature Spirits. Who are they? What is their role in creation? Can we learn to communicate and work with them once again as our ancestors did? Leave your adult seriousness at home and come prepared to frolic a bit.

Summer Retreat * August 6-8 - "All My Relations"

In the Native American tradition, prayers are ended with the statement "All My Relations." It is a reminder of our interconnectedness to all creation. This will be the focal point of our exploration of indegenous teachings of our relationship to the Earth and all beings.

Autumn Retreat * October 22-24 - "A Time For Silence"

Every spiritual tradition honors the "teaching without words" or the going-within-time of intentional silence. Except for a couple of sharing circles and evening campfires, this will be a weekend of silence; finding your own special spot at the Sanctuary or in the mountains to read, write, draw, meditate and deepen your communion with Self, Creator and Nature.

Mountain Light Sanctuary

There comes a point in each of our lives when we need some time apart.

...a time for personal assessment: where we've been, where we are, where we're going.

...a time to renew our creative energies.

...a time for spiritual reflection.

...a time without telephones, television, family, work or responsibilities.

...a time of returning to the basics and recon- necting with the sustaining power of nature.

When You Need That Time, There Is A Place...

Mountain Light Sanctuary

...in the mountains of Western North Carolina, USA

whether you are in crisis, experiencing a major life transition, or simply need some time to recharge...

Mountain Light Sanctuary is here for you

Nestled in a secluded cove within the Pisgah National Forest, 35 minutes north of Asheville, North Carolina, Mountain Light Sanctuary is surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the eastern USA.

Entrance to the Sanctuary is at the point where two cascading creeks come together, generating an energy and an ambience nothing short of magical.

Mountain Light Sanctuary is a gateway between the human world of "busy" and "doing" and the natural world of harmony and "being." It is your base camp for exploring hundreds of miles of trails meandering through the half million acres of Pisgah National Forest, or inner explorations from your own special spot under an ancient hemlock, on a mossy rock amid the ferns, or in a secluded grotto beside the creek .

Mountain Light Sanctuary is designed for spiritual and creative retreat; for meditation, alone time in the mountains, writing, art; however your Spirit expresses itself.

A Zen garden, a Celtic standing stone circle, a Native American medicine wheel, a garden of St. Francis, a grotto of the Divine Feminine, an elfin grove, a hammock next to the creek and an extensive library; all spiritual paths centered in love are honored.

Also honored is your need for privacy, though spiritual counseling, several forms of healing and work opportunities are available. Tea is served daily at 4 pm for guests who wish to share a bit of time together. Meals , and lodging are arranged according to each guests needs.
